Communication Faculty Win Top Panel Award at CSCA

Congratulations are in store for Bethel scholars.  Five Communication Studies faculty received the top panel award for their presentation titled “Elevating Muted Voices” at the Central States Communication Association (CSCA) conference held in Minneapolis in April. Dr. Ripley Smith discussed his ongoing work with female refugees, Dr. Scott Sochay explored the problems with the way Native Americans are portrayed in the media, Jessica Samens discussed challenges faced by English as a Second Language learners, Dr. Joel Ward presented thoughts on Pietism in higher education, and Dr. Artie Terry performed slam poetry exploring ageism in higher education. Each participant presented insights from their current research and explained how it helps to elevate the voices of these often overlooked populations. CSCA is the Communication Studies’ scholarly association made up of major universities and scholars in 13 states.
